Governance & Compliance
Within the travel industry
After having been around as a lawyer for the last 25 years in the travel industry - where I started out first as a tour guide in Gran Canaria back in 1995 and now latest as the Secretary General of the Swedish Travel Agent's and Tour Operator's Association - Governance & Compliance have always been something I am extra keen on to work with.
What does Governance & Compliance really mean? To me, in short it is a whole lot of rules and regulations that companies need to be aware of and comply with, both legally and ethically. To be able to do that, companies need to have a good knowledge and overview of the entire palette of rules and see to it that there is a good structure in place to govern and comply with them. If a company has it's governance and compliance in place, it will serve as a good and solid basis for running a professional and successful company. When a company's governance and compliance is not propely in place, sooner or later it usually cost either in a tarnished reputation or in a fine.
Many companies postpone its governance and compliance work due to it being a time consuming and administrative burden. But I would encourage you to consider a good structure, or if it already exists, a look into if it can be even better done in a smarter and more cost effective way.
